5 Great Flower Garden Ideas
There are so many ways to create wonderful flower gardens that the ideas seem almost endless. There are
wildflower gardens, bulb gardens, butterfly gardens, water gardens, spring gardens, summer gardens, herb gardens,
shade gardens... and the list just keeps going! We can't begin to cover all the best flower garden ideas in just
one article, but we'll give you some excellent ideas to get started with.
1. Shade gardens - This is a popular flower garden idea for shady areas of your yard. Any place in your yard
which stays in shade all the time, or most of the time, is the ideal place to put shade loving plants. The best
shade loving plants are those from the hosta family. Some grow quite large while others are small, some have very
colorful showy leaves, and some put out exquisite flowers too.
2. Wild flower gardens - This is one of the easiest flower garden ideas, because the whole purpose of a wild
flower garden is to have it look completely natural. Wild flower gardens are wonderful starting gardens, and
excellent for those hard to figure out bare spots in your yard too. Starting wild flower gardens is very easy, just
pick a packet or two of flower seeds - they usually come in mixes with up to 20 flowers and plants included - and
then scatter them in the area you want the wild flowers to grow. You can spread them more easily if you mix them
with some potting soil first though. Then just spread the seed laden soil evenly around your flower bed, and you're
done.
3. Bulb Gardens - This is another very popular flower garden idea, because flowers which grow from bulbs are
some of the most beautiful known to man. There are a variety of ways to create bulb flower gardens too. You can
simply mix fall bulbs with spring bulbs - the fall bulbs will start blooming in early spring and summer, then the
spring bulbs will bloom in later summer plus through the fall. This will give you continuous gorgeous color for
most of the year.
Other flower garden ideas using bulbs include: Tulip gardens, daffodil gardens, crocus gardens and even lily
gardens too. Mixing your gardening bulbs is usually the best idea though, because it usually gives you the most
bloom time.
4. Herb Gardens - Herbs often create flowers too, and creating an herb garden is a wonderful idea for anyone who
likes cooking, creating various types of teas, or making their own herbal remedies too. An excellent herb flower
garden idea is to first find an old wagon wheel or something that looks similar. Lay that in the middle or your
yard, or outside your kitchen door. Then plant a different flowering herb into each spoke of the wagon wheel. Once
these plants fill in the bare space and start producing flowers, you'll have a gorgeous, easy to maintain, and
useful herb garden.
5. Window Gardens - Another wonderful idea for flower gardens - especially if you have little to no yard space -
is to create a window flower garden. You can do this with separate pots and containers by simply hanging them in
the window, outside or in, or you can mount an actual window flower box outside, and fill it with beautiful annual
or perennial blooms.
